| Β | With cooler days and the spirit of thankfulness all around, November invites us to slow down and reflect on what truly matters. As we head into the season of giving thanks, weβre also thinking about those who are still in the middle of their healing journey. At Mending The Scarred, we know that healing doesnβt take a holiday, and support is needed now more than ever. This month, letβs lean into gratitude by showing up for others in real, meaningful ways. | | Β |

Gratitude in the Shadows: Thanksgiving Through the Eyes of a Survivor Β Letβs talk about Thanksgivingβnot from the top of the table, but from beneath it. Β From the quiet places where many women survivors of violence sit, watching the world celebrate a day that, for them, can feel like a carefully curated lie. For women whoβve endured trauma, especially domestic violence, gratitude doesnβt arrive like a guest at the door, arms full of pie. Itβs something they have to fight for. It doesnβt always bloom in the heart naturallyβitβs grown through grit, grace, and often, grief.
Β Imagine this: a woman who finally left her abuser, who now lives in a shelter or a new, unfamiliar apartment. She may not have a dining room table anymore. She might not have her children with her this year. She might be flooded with painful memories of past Thanksgivingsβwhere the food was hot, but the love was cold. When gratitude feels expected, but fear was what filled the air. Now tell her to βbe thankfulβ. You see the disconnect. Β The struggle is realβand rarely spoken. Thanksgiving can be particularly cruel in its silence. Our culture wraps the holiday in niceties and nostalgia, but for survivors, this season can feel like walking barefoot through broken glass. The world says βbe thankful,β while their reality says, βIβm just trying to survive.β Theyβre battling loneliness. Grieving broken family ties. Wrestling with guilt for not being βjoyful enough". Watching others celebrate what they themselves have lost or never had. Β And yetβmany survivors are grateful. Not in spite of their pain, but often because of it. Theyβre grateful for breath. For the chance to rebuild. For the strength it took to walk away. For strangers who became safe places. For peace, even in pieces. Their gratitude may not be loud, but itβs deepβand itβs real. Β So what do we do with this tension? We acknowledge it. We stop pretending Thanksgiving is the same for everyone. We resist the urge to slap toxic positivity on someone elseβs suffering. Instead, we offer space. We ask better questions than βWhat are you thankful for?β Maybe we ask, βWhat do you need this season?β βHow can I support you?β βWhat are you healing from?β Β And if you're a survivor reading this... Know this: your version of Thanksgiving doesnβt need to look like anyone elseβs. If youβre not there yetβif thankfulness feels too heavy right nowβitβs okay. You are still worthy. You are still healing. You are still incredibly brave. Your gratitude might not come in loud declarations, but maybe it whispers to you in quiet victoriesβgetting out of bed, making a phone call, choosing peace, choosing you. Β This Thanksgiving, may we all give thanks with tenderness and truth.Β Β Not by ignoring the shadowsβbut by daring to bring the light in anyway. |

Grace in the Everyday: Ministry that Meets Women Where They Are |
|---|
| | Healing doesnβt only happen in quiet moments of prayerβit often shows up in the most ordinary places.Β Β Sometimes, grace meets us not around a holiday table, but in a church parking lot, while a car is being serviced and a conversation begins. Β Mending The Scarred partners with Faith Assemblyβs Car Care ministry to meet people where they areβliterally. | | Β |
|---|
Every three months, Faith Assembly hosts its Car Care ministry, offering oil changes and some minor repairs for church attendees who schedule an appointment. While the cars are being serviced outside, Mending The Scarred volunteers join those waiting insideβsitting with people to offer prayer, encouragement, and a listening ear. |
|---|
| | | Β | Itβs practical. Itβs purposeful. And itβs personal. As individuals wait for their cars, theyβre met with kindness, prayer, and meaningful conversation. One by one, women from our team sit beside strangers-turned-friends, offering words of hope, listening to stories, and sharing what Christ has done in their lives. Β And while we come alongside the church family, we recognize that many within the church also carry burdens and need encouragement.Β | | Β |
|---|
A prayer shared hand-in-hand, a heartfelt conversation, and the simple reminder that God sees, loves, and caresβall of this takes place right there in the waiting area, while cars are being serviced just outside. Β This is what ministry looks like for us: hands serving under the hood, hearts connecting in conversation, and Christ at the center of it all. |

Healing Together: Finding Strength in Community | Thereβs something deeply meaningful about gathering in personβsharing a meal, exchanging stories, learning side by side, and offering strength to one another. Each time we meet, thereβs room for honesty, encouragement, and connection that reminds us weβre not alone in this walk. Β For those who canβt be with us in person, our online prayer group is a gentle rhythm of community and faith. Itβs a place to pause, pray, and find steady support, wherever life finds you. Β You can learn more about our gatherings and ongoing programs on our website. However you connect, we hope you know this: youβre part of a community that walks together, listens deeply, and believes in the slow, steady work of healing. | | Β |

| Β | Β | Β | | Β | What Weβre Saying in Two LanguagesΒ Β Across Orlando, our chapters gather each monthβsome in English, and one in Spanishβto reflect on a shared theme.Β Β Though each group meets in its own time and space, the conversations echo one another: honest, heartfelt, and rooted in real stories of faith and growth. Β Each campus prepares a flyer with meeting details so you can easily find your place. For our Spanish-speaking community, the dedicated Spanish chapter offers the same theme in your heart language. Β Different rooms, different voicesβbut one Spirit moving through them all. Wherever you join in, youβre part of a shared journey of listening, learning, and walking together. | Β | | Β | Β | Β |
| This Monthβs Topic: Gratefulness
In seasons of pain or uncertainty, gratitude can feel out of reachβyet it can also become the very path that helps us heal.Β
In this gathering, weβll talk about how gratefulness isnβt pretending everything is fine, but choosing to notice how God is still present, still working, and still good.Β
Together, weβll explore how even small moments of thankfulness can restore peace, bring clarity, and remind us that healing is possibleβone step, one grace at a time. | | Β | Β | Β | | Β | | Β | | Β | Β | Β |

| ΒΏHablas espaΓ±ol?
Β | | Β | Β | Β | | Β | | Β | | Β | Β | Β |

Β It offers a clear view of how each meeting weaves into the rhythm of our shared lifeβreminders of where weβre gathering, what weβre reflecting on, and how we can walk together in faith and purpose, wherever we are. | Β | | Β | Β | Β | | Β | Β | Β |

Gratitude in Action: Be Part of a Survivorβs Healing Β Gratitude isnβt just a feelingβitβs a choice we make to show up for others. It looks like checking in on someone whoβs been distant. Donating essentials to a woman starting over with nothing. Taking time to understand what trauma really means so we can respond with empathyβnot judgment. Β This season, letβs go beyond saying βIβm thankfulβ and ask: Who can I lift up? Who needs to know theyβre not alone? Β When you sponsor a survivor, youβre doing more than giving moneyβyouβre giving hope. Youβre helping someone feel seen, valued, and supported in a moment when they need it most. Β Because healing doesnβt happen in isolation. It happens when someone reaches out and says, βYou matter. Iβve got your back.β Β This Thanksgiving, let your gratitude take action. Sponsor a survivorβand be part of rewriting her story. | | |

| Β | Together, We Can Break the Cycle of Trauma Β Every woman deserves the chance to heal, rebuild, and thrive after trauma. Β Many survivors of domestic violence and other hardships face overwhelming challengesβhomelessness, financial instability, and emotional wounds that can feel impossible to heal alone. Thatβs where we step in. Β We offer real, life-changing support: counseling, job assistance, emergency aid, food, clothing, medical care, and access to education. But we donβt stop there. Β Imagine a place where survivors find not just shelter, but a space to rebuild hope. Mending The Scarred is working toward launching a transitional housing program here in Floridaβa safe, temporary home designed to support women in their most fragile moments. Your support today brings us one step closer to making that vision a reality. Together, we can create a future where healing is housed with dignity. Β This mission isnβt just about meeting basic needsβitβs about empowerment. We want women to move beyond survival, to become confident, self-sufficient, and ready to build a bright future. Β But we canβt do this alone. Your supportβwhether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the wordβcan change lives.Β Β Together, we can give women the fresh start they deserve. Β Will you join us? | | |
