| July is a month of reflection—on freedom, resilience, and growth. At Mending The Scarred, we stand with those on the path of healing. Independence Day reminds us that true freedom isn’t just external; it’s found in the courage to mend what’s broken within. As we reach the midpoint of the year, it’s a powerful time to pause, reflect on our journeys, and honor the progress we’ve made. Our mission is to create spaces where scars become symbols of strength, not shame. Join us as we share stories, resources, and hope to inspire healing in every heart. | |

Unshackled: The Bold Journey Beyond Survival For women who have survived abuse, freedom is deeply personal. Abuse leaves invisible marks: guilt, shame, fear, self-doubt. These silent chains feel heavy, but they are not permanent. Healing is the key. It doesn’t follow a straight, predictable path—there are ups, downs, and detours—but every small step matters. Reclaiming Your Story Healing means taking back your story. You are more than what was done to you. Speak your truth, whether through writing, art, therapy, or sharing in safe spaces. Your voice is powerful. Freedom Looks Different for Everyone For some, freedom might mean setting boundaries without guilt. For others, it’s feeling safe in their own bodies, trusting again, or pursuing dreams that were once buried under fear. There’s no universal definition, and that’s okay. It might look like: Laughing freely without wondering if it’s too loud. Wearing what makes you feel beautiful, not what makes you invisible. Saying “no” without over-explaining. Waking up without dread. These moments, however small, are milestones. The Journey is Yours Healing isn’t about erasing the past but reshaping your relationship with it. You decide how your story unfolds. Freedom includes the right to be vulnerable, to rest, and to feel without judgment. You Deserve Freedom Not because you survived, but because you exist. As we reflect this July, let’s honor the personal freedoms survivors reclaim every day: the freedom to feel joy, to be seen, heard, and whole. You are not defined by your past. With God’s guidance, you are the author of your future. |

Hearts United in Purpose: A Powerful Gathering in Jacksonville In March 29, 2025, Mending The Scarred hosted a deeply meaningful retreat in Jacksonville, Florida—an event that brought together hearts, stories, and ministries under one roof. The retreat was made possible through the gracious hospitality of All Souls Anglican Church, whose leadership not only provided the venue but also continue to host the Jacksonville Mending the Scarred group every Thursday. Their partnership has been a true blessing.
| This meaningful photo captures a beautiful moment from the retreat, showcasing a powerful mix of leadership and community. Pictured here are Mending The Scarred’s Jacksonville leaders and team members, along with leaders and team members from the Orlando campuses—both the English and Spanish-speaking communities—and the Casselberry campus. Also included are the inspiring speakers who developed and led the retreat sessions, as well as several attendees who joyfully joined in for this memorable group photo. This gathering is a beautiful testament to the unity, diversity, and shared purpose across all our campuses. The retreat was more than a gathering—it was a reminder of the strength found in community, the healing that blossoms in safe spaces, and the incredible work God is doing through Mending The Scarred across campuses and cities. Jacksonville’s Mending The Scarred group continues to grow as a light in their community, and we are so excited to highlight them in this issue. You can see more moments from the retreat in our media gallery. Let’s keep celebrating what God is doing—one heart, one story, one city at a time. |

Led to Lead: Strengthening the Servant’s Heart Early in the month of June, the leadership team of Mending The Scarred came together for a refreshing weekend retreat designed to restore, refocus, and reconnect our hearts to the call of servant leadership.
| Held in a peaceful, private home, this intimate retreat gave us time away from the noise not just to meet, but to build. | | | These snapshots capture more than a meeting; they reveal the heartbeat of leadership that flows through Mending The Scarred. In this candid retreat, conversation stirred with purpose. Pens moved swiftly across notepads, yet what was truly being written was not just planning—it was legacy. Around couches and kitchen counters, we delved into the “why” behind the “what we do.” From the kitchen island where coffee and connection brewed, to the living room where insights were courageously voiced, the dialogue ran deep. We reflected on our roles, our impact, and the profound responsibility of servant leadership. Laughter wove through the air, as did thoughtful silence—a space held tenderly for wisdom to rise. Each woman brought a unique voice, yet all were tuned to a shared rhythm: to serve with intention, to lead with humility, and to keep moving forward no matter the obstacles. It wasn’t flashy. It didn’t need to be. This was ministry in motion—raw, rooted, and real. | | | | | | | | | |
| Refilling the Fellowship by the Pool After a morning of deep conversation, we stepped into a slower rhythm—one of rest, laughter, and connection. By the poolside, we shared stories, snacks, and easy silence that spoke of trust and sisterhood. Just time to breathe, smile, and enjoy one another’s presence. It was a beautiful reminder: rest is not a pause from the work—it’s part of the work. | | | | | | | | | |
| Captured Moments: A Retreat Told in 32 Frames Some moments are too rich for words—and too many to fit in a single post. This was more than an event—it was a tapestry of shared service, laughter, rest, reflection, and deep connection. Across 32 collages, our media gallery captures glimpses of the beauty of this journey from beginning to end. You’ll see our team working together in the kitchen, preparing meals and sharing laughs. You’ll spot us relaxing with foot detoxes while enjoying each others company. What followed was a powerful time of prayer that stretched into the early morning—well past 1 a.m.—as hearts opened, voices lifted, and others simply listened. Though those sacred hours weren’t captured on camera—pajamas and all—they remain etched in our hearts and were too meaningful not to be remembered here. You’ll catch glimpses of our shared breakfasts, the fun moment we gifted a police hat and whistle to our sweet but firm “retreat patrol,” and the focused group discussions that helped us grow. The gallery also takes you poolside, where we unwound together, and then back inside for more intentional, heartfelt conversations. | | One of the most powerful scenes unfolds as we humbly washed each other’s feet, embracing grace, healing, and unity without needing to speak it. We closed our time as it began: together. With Communion, with gratitude, and with one last breakfast before parting ways—full-hearted, reignited, and ready. Each collage is a window. Step into them and relive the retreat with us. | |

Hitting Pause to Recharge—We’ll Be Back in August, Refreshed and Ready! As the warmth of summer settles in, we want to let you know that Mending The Scarred will be taking a break during the month of July. There will be no events, gatherings, or group meetings as many of our dedicated volunteers will be traveling, spending time with family, or simply recharging. We believe in the importance of rest—not just for the body, but for the heart and soul too. This pause gives us all a chance to reflect, refresh, and return with renewed energy for the mission God has placed before us. We’ll be back in August, ready to reconnect, serve, and continue the work of healing and hope together. Until then, enjoy your summer, cherish your moments of rest, and know we’re looking forward to seeing you soon! |
