Healing Through Releasing: Mending the Scarred Ladies' Retreat
March 29, 2025 | Jacksonville, FL
This past Saturday, the women of Mending the Scarred gathered at All Souls Anglican Church for a day of worship, fellowship, and powerful revelations. The "Healing Through Releasing" retreat was a sacred time to explore the challenges of asking for help, learn how to communicate our needs, and release fear and prideβallowing God to heal the wounds of every gathered heart (Psalm 147:3).
The day began with worship, setting the tone for a spirit-filled experience. Jacksonville Leader Liza OβConnell, alongside co-leads Cynthia Perry and Bonne Evans, welcomed the attendees, followed by an introduction from MTS Founder & Director Carmen Alonso. After some fun icebreakers and small group sessions, the retreat delved into the heart of its theme.
One of the most moving moments was the solo skit, βNaomiβs Story,β performed by Duane Brittlebank, bringing to life the biblical account of Ruth and Naomiβa testament to Godβs provision even in the midst of loss. This led into the first session, βWhy is it so Hard to Ask for Help?β, led by a dedicated missionary who shared powerful insights on overcoming the barriers that keep us from seeking support. Her words resonated deeply, sparking reflection and discussion among the women.
A breathtaking interpretive dance to βWhen I Fallβ by JoAnna Bannon (shown above) offered a visual representation of surrendering our burdens to God. This set the stage for small group activities, where attendees engaged in open discussions before breaking for prayer and lunch, sharing moments of vulnerability and encouragement.
The afternoon continued with the distribution of prophetic art led by Wanda Gonzalez, weaving creativity and worship together. Dawn Batchelor, First Lady of All Souls, then spoke on βCommunication β The Key to Asking for Help,β emphasizing how effective communication can break down barriers and foster healing. The final topic, βReleasing Fear and Pride,β was presented by Ahisha Rodriguez, MTS Curriculum Head, who reminded everyone that God calls us to let go of the weights that hold us back.
As the retreat neared its end, women had the opportunity to receive personal prayer, bringing their burdens before God. The day concluded with a final closing prayer, sealing the lessons learned and the healing that had taken place.
This retreat was a transformative experience, filled with biblical wisdom, artistic expression, and heartfelt connection. We are grateful for every woman who attended, and we pray that each one continues to walk in the freedom of releasing their burdens to the Lord.
